Tornado Information
Here is a tornado, with the funnel formation, rotating across the land.
What is a tornado exactly? A tornado is a violent windstorm that travels over land in a funnel-shaped formation that rotates. Spinning tornadoes can be up to 318mph, and their wind speed can be between 40 and 110mph. Tornadoes can be fit into separate categories: weak, strong, and violent. Although tornadoes can form at either day or night, however, after 12 hours of landfall the tornado is mainly active in the daytime.
How Does A Tornado Form?
Here is a diagram showing how a tornado forms.
How do tornadoes form? Tornadoes form when humidity and a different range of temperatures meet. When the atmosphere is weak, the warmer air moves upward quickly. As the air moves up, it spirals and grows thicker. Once the tornado forms, it spirals across the land destroying everything in its path, including houses and other buildings, all types of vehicles such as cars, boats, trucks, buses, and airplanes.
As the tornado progresses through the land, eventually its energy will begin to dwindle because, like a hurricane, the tornado feeds off of warm air. Eventually, more stable air with less vorticity will begin to rotate with the tornado, cutting off its source of warm air.

What type of damage can a tornado cause? Tornadoes can damage many of the things that a hurricane can. They can destroy all types of buildings; houses, schools, whole towns. Also, vehicles can be sucked up and spun around and around. Eventually, the cars can become dangerous if they are spinning in the air because if they stopped spinning and flung out. They can become a danger to the people outside because if the car were to hit you, it would be going fast enough to kill you.
